Nadeem Omar, the owner of Omar Associates, a Karachi-based commercial firm, owns the Quetta Gladiators franchise. The purchase of a franchise was estimated to cost US$ 11 million over the course of a 10-year agreement.

The Quetta Gladiators wear purple, white, and gold on their jerseys. Purple is connected with ambition, passion, and integrity, whereas white is related to light, purity, and positivity. It instills patriotism in children. The color gold, on the other hand, is associated with Cricket’s rich history and legacy.

They use the emblem ‘Shaan-e-Pakistan,’ which represents their passion for the country, to identify themselves with Quetta’s rich culture. QG claims to reflect not only Quetta’s various demographics but Pakistan as a whole.

Team Achivements:

The Quetta Gladiators have been one of the League’s most consistent teams. It has made it into all three seasons that have been completed thus far. They also finished second in the first two seasons, in 2016 and 2017.

Along with Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi, they are part of an elite group of three PSL teams that have participated in the tournament’s finals. Each of the teams has competed in two finals. In the 2017 season of the league, the team was also given the US$ 20,000 cash-priced ‘Spirit of the Cricket’ Award.

Club Development:

They had a long run in the League’s debut season and played their way into the finals like pros. They finished second in the League Table with 12 points and six victories in eight matches, trailing only Peshawar in terms of Net Run Rate Difference. Quetta defeated Peshawar in the first round of the playoffs and advanced to the finals. In the finals, however, United proved to be too powerful for them, as they were trounced by 6 wickets.

Sarfaraz Ahmad, as a capable captain of a capable squad, would have felt nostalgic while seeing the events of the League’s second season. His squad finished second in the League Table for the second year in a row.

Low Points and Dissensions:

With each passing season, the team’s Net Run Rate graph decreased. In the same way, the winning percentage decreased.

When certain foreign players, notably Shane Watson, declined to play in the playoffs in Pakistan last year, there was a fight between them and the administration. Watson supposedly agreed to play playoffs in Pakistan, according to the franchise’s owner, Nadeem Omar. In the United Arab Emirates, League matches were held.

They have not only won league titles, but also the hearts of many cricket fans throughout the world. This team has attracted a large number of international players.

Club Development:

Islamabad United finished third in the round-robin group stage of the 2016 Pakistan Super League, qualifying for the knockout stage of the league after a dismal start. The squad won four of their eight games, resulting in a total of eight points from their group games.

In 2017, Indiana University added new players and skills to its roster. However, it was not in their favor to win the championship. Despite a strong start in the league, they were eliminated in the second round. In the eliminator this year, they were once again pitted against Karachi. Karachi Kings is a cricket franchise based in Karachi that competes in the Pakistan Super League, Pakistan’s equivalent of the IPL. The team’s headquarters are in Karachi, Sindh’s capital. The logo features a lion with the words Karachi Kings printed in white and gold beneath it, symbolizing Karachi’s real spirit and resilience. The National Stadium, Karachi’s fifth and Pakistan’s eleventh first-class venue, hosts the Karachi Kings. On April 21-24, 1955, Pakistan and India played their first-class match at NSK, which became a watershed moment in Pakistan cricket.

Team Achivements:

In 2015, the Karachi Kings were sold to the ARY media group for a total of 26 million dollars for a ten-year period, making them the most expensive team in the tournament until 2017, when the Multan Sultans were sold for 4.16 million dollars for an eight-year period.

The Karachi Kings have had a few notable accomplishments throughout the seasons:

In the first season of the PSL, Ravi Bopara won the Player of the Tournament award.
Season 2 ended with a third-place finish out of a possible five. This year’s ranking is one spot higher than the previous year’s.
Shahid Afridi was brought in as a player and President, and he went undefeated in his first three matches.

Club Development:

Despite the fact that the team finished fourth in the competition, Englishman Ravi Bopara had a sensational season, winning the player of the tournament title for his exceptional performance with both the bat and the ball. Bopara hammered a 43-ball 71* against the Lahore Qalandars to achieve the ninth greatest statistics in T-20 history.

With Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakkara and Pakistani spinner Babar Azam joining the squad to start 2017, the Karachi Kings looked highly good on paper. Kieron Pollard, Mahela Jayawardena, and Ryan McLaren were among those that were added. The Karachi Kings began the 2017 PSL on the wrong foot but finally found their way onto the points table by defeating the defending champions, Islamabad United, via D/L, and then continued to their last game in Sharjah, where they defeated the Peshawar Zalmi in a nail-biting match. The Kings were able to scrape by with a 7-run victory thanks to a superb partnership between Shahid Afridi and Darren Sammy for the Zalmis.

Peshwar Zalmi Background:

The Pakistan Cricket Board granted five main city-based franchises in December 2015, with Haier Pakistan purchasing the Peshawar franchise for a fee of 16 million dollars.

Despite having a good start to the first season, the Zalmi were eliminated from the tournament after losing to Islamabad United in the second qualifying match.

Players:

Tamim Iqbal was the team’s top scorer in the 2016 edition of the PSL, scoring 267 runs in six matches. With 353 runs, Kamran Akmal was the team’s leading scorer and the PSL’s Player of the Tournament for the 2017 season. The most well-known player for the franchise was Shahid Afridi, who played for the team for the first two seasons before joining the Karachi Kings in the third. Since the 2017 edition, the team has been led by Windies star Darren Sammy.

Club Development:

Following a dismal first season, Peshawar geared up and prepared for the second season with zeal. The Peshawar franchise kept ten of its major players and signed eight new ones at the PSL draught for the second season, including Shakib Al Hasan, Eoin Morgan, and Alex Hales. They were defeated by Islamabad United in their first encounter. As the competition progressed, the Zalmi were pitted against the Quetta Gladiators, however, the match was called off due to on-and-off rainfall. The two sides were matched up again, and this time everything went wrong for the Zalmi, as victory slipped away from them in the final over of the match.

The Zalmi had to play the second qualifier as the Gladiators advanced to the finals. The Zalmi defeated Karachi Kings by 24 runs in the second qualifier to go to the finals. Batting first, the Zalmi struggled at first, losing six wickets for only 112 runs, but a remarkable knock by Darren Sammy in the later parts of the innings enabled them to post a 148-run total. Following that, the Zalmi’s excellent bowling performance helped them clinch the title, defeating the Gladiators by 58 runs. They had an incredible season in 2018, making it to the finals for the second year in a row. However, things did not go according to plan, and the Zalmi were defeated badly.

About Qalandars

Fawad Rana, the proprietor of the Qatar Lubricants Company Limited, also known as QALCO, owns the franchise. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the Pakistan Super League’s inaugural season in 2015. The owners of the five franchises were announced on December 3, 2015, with Lahore Qalandars being sold to QALCO for $25.1 million USD, making them the second most expensive team in the Super League after Karachi Kings.

The team was officially founded and slated to compete in the league on December 12th, 2015. The name Qalandar was chosen in order to honor Lahore’s renowned Sufi culture. Qalandar was also a title used to denote Sufi mystics and saints who draw in millions of visitors.

Sufis have done the famed Sufi spinning for many centuries, according to the rich Lahore tradition. To honor the Sufi tradition, this has been included in the team’s logo. The Qalandars had a number of sponsors, including Mobilink, Geo Tv, and Royal Palm, thanks to its affluent owners. For their main jersey uniform, they chose a black and red combination, which was later changed to black and green, which became a fan favorite. Similarly, the team anthem distinguishes any sporting franchise. In 2016, Asrar and Nabeel Shaukat Ali released two different versions of “Dama Dam Mast.” Shafqat Amanat Ali’s song “Dama Dam Mast Lahore Qalandars” became the official anthem in 2017. In the 2017 season, Shaan Shahid was named the team’s brand ambassador.

Team Achivements:

Umar Akmal was named the best batsman in the Pakistan Super League 2016 after scoring 335 runs in only seven games. The qalandars also took up the Spirit of Cricket award during the competition. In a league game, the club scored 201 runs in 20 overs, making them the second-highest run-scorers in the debut season. In the 2016 competition, they also had the best run rate. They competed in the Abu Dhabi trophy in 2018 and won it by defeating the TITANS, a South African franchise. In each of the three seasons, they have qualified for the group stages.

Club Development:

Season 2016

The Lahorians began the inaugural season with two consecutive losses before breaking their losing skid by defeating the Quetta Gladiators and claiming their first victory. They were eliminated from the playoffs after losing six of their eight group games. Qalandars were the last ones to leave the table. They won the ‘Spirit of the Game’ award as well as the ‘Fair Play’ award despite the losses.

Season 2017

Lahore Qalandars lost their first game of the season to Quetta Gladiators after failing to chase down 137 runs, but they came back by defeating defending champions Islamabad United. After that, they crumbled to a total of 59 in 11 overs. Despite Yashir Shah’s four wickets for seven runs, the Qalandars were defeated. As the competition shifted from Sharjah to Dubai, the team suffered successive losses to Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi, putting them at the bottom of the table and preventing them from qualifying for the PCL playoffs for the second year in a row.

Season 2018

The Qalandars’ 2018 season likewise got off to a rocky start. In that order, they lost their first three matches to Multan Sultans, Quetta Gladiators, and Karachi Kings. They went on to lose to the Zalmis, therefore ending their dreams of reserving a playoff berth for the third year in a row.

Base of Supporters

In the Pakistan Super League, the Qalandars are the most popular team. On Twitter, they have approximately 500k followers, and on Facebook, they have over half a million. They’ve also amassed a sizable following as a result of their relationship with a number of celebrities, including Shaan.

Schön Properties was the team’s original owner. In 2018, Ali Khan Tareen acquired the team’s rights and continued to use the same name. All about PSL: Pakistan Super League.

Afterward, just one action-packed season in the league, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) canceled the franchise’s eight-year ownership rights in November 2018. The franchise was terminated due to its failure to pay its annual fee of US$ 5.2 million. By outbidding the reserve fee in 2018, Ali Tareen-led Multan Consortium secured the franchise rights for the sixth team. The reserve price had been set at $5.21 million per year for a period of seven years by PCB.

Players:

The Multan Sultan has a steady captain in Shoaib Malik, who contributes his experience to the team. Malik has 224 runs on the season, averaging 37.33 runs per game. He is only second to Kumar Sangakkara, the great former Sri Lankan cricketer. With 269 runs in ten matches at an average of 33.62, the southpaw from the island nation asserted his authority.

Apart from these two, the franchise has also signed Kieron Pollard, a T20 freelancer. With the bat, the all-rounder took five wickets and scored 165 runs. Umar Gul dubbed the ‘Guldozer’ in Pakistan cricket, has an amazing average of 6.25 after taking 8 wickets in just two games for the new team.

Club Development:

The Sultans began the 2018 season with a seven-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi. Imran Tahir scored 3/27 against the Lahore Qalandars to make it two wins out of two. However, in the subsequent phases, the team failed to barge the door hard enough, and they finished up second last in the points table.
